Surgical vs Non Surgical Facelift

A non-surgical facelift is a sought-after thing in the world of beauty and skin care. While not-so-dramatic as surgery, some of today’s most advanced facial therapies get closer today than ever before.

What defines a non-surgical facelift?

It has been a common misconception for years that the only way to achieve a facelift was by going under the surgeon’s knife. A non-surgical facelift aims to achieve a similar effect but without invasive surgery and lasers.

In recent years, advanced aesthetic treatments have been emerging, following scientific studies that investigate collagen regeneration and the effects on the outer skin layers. These treatments are fast-becoming the closest thing to a non-surgical facelift and are being hailed by celebrities all over the world.

About collagen regeneration

Collagen diminishes as we grow older and this is partly because of a slowdown in the production of collagen in the deep layers of the skin. This is what makes the skin lose its ‘plumpness’, which shows on the outside as wrinkles and lines.

Some of the latest technologies have been developed to stimulate the collagen cells and encourage them to regenerate over time. While the effects may not appear as dramatically or as quickly as a surgical intervention, results are more natural. This is because they begin within the deep layers and build to gently re-plump the skin and smooth out the fine lines.

Stimulating collagen regrowth with ultrasound therapy

HIFU focussed ultrasound facial therapy is perhaps one of the most popular technologies for collagen stimulation, favoured by the world’s A-listers searching for a non-invasive approach to anti-aging. Ultrasound waves penetrate deep within the skin tissues and stimulate a healing response from the collagen cells. This triggers regrowth, which then builds over the days and weeks that follow. A series of HIFU treatments is recommended for the best results.

The latest HIFU technology has come a long way in recent years, with today’s offering a more comfortable experience. Elaine trains practitioners in the use of HIFU’s TGA-approved technology and offers this advanced lifting therapy to her clients at Clinique Matrice.

Collagen regeneration through microneedling

Microneedling is also often referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). Minimally invasive, the therapy involves the use of tiny, sterile and medical grade microneedles which make hundreds of microchannels in the skin. Highly concentrated natural products can then be absorbed more easily. Elaine uses Mesopen & Fusion with electroporation, which can offer a no-needle approach if preferred.

This results in a tightening of the skin as old collagen begins to break up and synthesis of new collagen is triggered. New collagen growth in the deeper skin layers improves the appearance of the upper layers, plumping and reducing the appearance of scars, wrinkles, large pores and other lines.

When electroporation is incorporated, when using the Mesopen technology, the permeability of the cell membranes is increased dramatically. This means that nutrient-rich products are delivered faster to where they are needed most, hydrating and enriching the skin at cellular level.
